Virgil Green - Independent Consultant

I've been working with Synon/2 and Synon/2E for about 10 years. I've worked with both the RPG and the COBOL generators. I even used the COBOL 74 generator which produced some of the most "interesting" COBOL code I've ever seen. I'm happy to say that the currently generated COBOL 85 code is much cleaner.

I've been dabbling in Obsydian for the last 3+ years. I say "dabbling" because I've been trying to build up the Obsydian market in the Saint Louis area. It's not easy when you have to spend your days working to earn a living. As yet, I haven't decided to take on a travelling assignment to work on an Obsydian project. I was a member of the SOAP/ICP program (Synon Obsydian Alliance Program - Independent Consultants Program) and have been fully trained in the product. You'll note below that I was selected as a top speaker at IUC97. That was with my first Obsydian presentation.

I was a frequent speaker at the Synon International User Conferences. I started speaking in 1992 (or was it 1991?). I have presented both Synon/2E and Obsydian topics. These include:

Synon/2E Obsydian
bulletBuilding User Defined Date Types
bulletDenormalizing for Speed
bulletUnderstanding Parameters
bulletGotcha! - Tips and Techniques from Synonlock Holmes
bulletBuilding a Standards Layer - Theory
bulletBuilding a Standards Layer - Practice

All these presentations are now available in the Tips and Techniques section.

In both 1995 and 1997 I was selected as one of the top two speakers at the Synon International Users Conference. That afforded me the opportunity to travel to England to be a guest presenter at the Synon European Users Conference. Both trips were great. Imagine my trepidation when, in 1995, I stood not 200 yards from Baker street and delivered a presentation dressed as Synonlock Holmes. As it happens, most of the audience wasn't from England anyway. I really had nothing to fear. It is important to note that my 1997 win was with my co-presenter, Pam Schnebelen of Systems Analysis and Design, Inc. Pam is also an independent consultant and another SOAP/ICP participant.
